Be inspired by the powerful guitar tones and musicianship of The Dead Mentors. They will delight your ears and minds with their unique brand of alternative shoegazing rock. Their refined sound echoes the origins of rock guitar tones and their lyrics and melodies draw inspiration from rock masters and icons like The Velvet Underground, Iggy Pop, PinkFloyd, David Bowie, and many more.
The band is from Adelaide, South Australia (Kaurna Country) and was formed by Ollie Scholey (vocal and rhythm guitar) and Ben Mooney (lead guitar). Their musical collaboration began in 2020, leading to the formation of The Dead Mentors in early 2024 at which point Mark Kosters (drums) and Dan Mundy (bass) joined the fold. Through this period their collaboration has led to the creation of a collection of songs which have been refined to deliver an engaging live show. The resulting achievement has been that this show has been performed at a number of venues through 2024 which include The Broadcast Bar, The Three Brothers Arms and The Governor Hindmarsh.

Ollie Scholey (vocals and rhythm guitar) has written and performed songs for most of his life and has a solid understanding of song structure, storytelling and sound engineering. He brings dedication, creativity and technical expertise to the band.

Ben Mooney (lead guitar) has a long history of experience in the music industry and has played a primary role as collaborator and sound engineer in both the live and studio environments. His knowledge and experience is invaluable in the development of our songs and performance.

Mark Kosters has played drums for many bands and brings his refined drumming style and understanding of the subtleties of parts to the band.

Dan Mundy has played bass for a number of years and brings his consistent attention to detail to the band.
The four members form a cohesive and dedicated band who are enthusiastic and dedicated to refining their craft to delight themselves and their audience. They stay true to the genre while adding grit and attitude to their sound. The band’s collaborative process results in meaningful story-telling, soaring guitar work anchored by a solid rhythm section.
The Dead Mentors first single ‘I Wanna Be’, was released in June 2024. The release was accompanied by a music video which is available on Youtube.
